The Early Days

When Goode Company Barbeque first opened, Jim gave away sandwiches to people on the street to drum up business. A whole lot of people only needed one taste to know that Jim was somebody they would be seeing a lot more of. In those early days, the family picked up on an interesting way to get a handle on what kind of day they were having. They would count how many times the trash cans needed emptying, and that would give them a pretty good sense of how things were going. If it was a slow day, Jim would head out onto the street, sandwiches in hand, to invite folks in to sit for a while.

When evening came, Jim would sit at a table in the corner and count the day's earnings. There were some good days and some bad days. But either way, you could be sure that Jim and the rest of the family would be back at it when the sun came up.
